Product line expansion at Beats: Apple has given its subsidiary a new task for the launch of iPhone 16 & Co. In future, it will produce iPhone cases to complement the case products under Apple's own brand. They are already available for all four of the Group's new 2024 smartphones.

Beats was previously only known for audio products and, before the launch of Apple Music, for its own music streaming service. The Apple subsidiary previously sold over-ear and on-ear headphones, earbuds and – recently relaunched – portable speakers. Now it is adding "Case Beats", which are available at rates of 59 euros each. There are no price differences between device sizes or product lines (Standard or Pro).

The cases are available in four colors with creative names typical of Apple and Beats: "Velvet Black", "Rock Beige", "Pacific Blue" and "Evening Purple". The Beats cases are designed to create "fresh outfits for your iPhone" and are made of polycarbonate, which is, however, quite slippery and semi-stable. According to Beats, however, "thousands of hours of testing have been completed" to protect iPhones from scratches and drops – Whether this also applies to the cases themselves remains to be seen. Microfiber cloth was used on the inside.

Like most current iPhone cases, the Case Beats support Apple's MagSafe wireless charging standard. Integrated magnets are installed for this purpose. The camera control, Apple's new button for photo and video, can also be used in the case. Instead of simply leaving the area exposed, a "sapphire cap with a conductive layer" has been integrated to pass on the signal. Initial tests will have to show whether this works as intended.

Apple recently revised its range of smartphone cases and removed the controversial FineWoven material ("fine fabric") from the range after much criticism. Currently, the company only sells a MagSafe wallet (magnetic credit card case for iPhones) and an AirTag key fob made from the plastic textile material, which could disintegrate surprisingly quickly in use.
