Teachers in Germany predominantly rate their ability to use digital technologies in the classroom positively. These are the results of a survey commissioned by the digital association Bitkom. A total of 502 teachers from lower and upper secondary schools took part in the survey. According to the survey, teachers gave themselves an average grade of 2.5 for their digital teaching skills.

The survey also shows that digital devices and applications are already in widespread use. 83% of the teachers surveyed use them to present worksheets or for lesson presentations. 75% allow their students to conduct research using digital devices such as laptops and tablets, while 65% present learning content in video or audio form. 61% of teachers write texts together with their students on digital devices.

Digital applications are often used by 70 percent of teachers in the form of learning platforms. In the STEM subjects, 81% use them, in other subjects 65%. In STEM subjects, the devices also enable participation in hybrid or digital lessons, for example in the form of video conferencing (70%). In other subjects, more than half of teachers use this option (56%).

Bitkom CEO Dr. Bernhard Rohleder emphasizes that the use of digital devices and applications must play a key role in lessons, as they are "an integral part of the reality of children and young people's lives". In his opinion, following the "agreement between the federal and state governments on a Digital Pact 2.0 [...] the digital skills of teachers and pupils must be further strengthened in addition to the technical equipment in schools. Devices and applications alone do not make teaching better, they must be used in a didactically meaningful way".
