In collaboration with the luxury book publisher Assouline, the book from Apple's music streaming service Apple Music will be published in November. It covers the 100 best albums. Price: 450 euros.
Apple as a book publisher has already been seen in the past. In 2016, the iPhone manufacturer published a thick design book, which was the responsibility of then Chief Design Officer Jonathan "Jony" Ive and provided insights into Apple's device design. Depending on the version, the older book with 450 photographs costs 200 or even 300 euros. The new print is – possibly due to inflation? – is therefore even more expensive.
"Slim and transparent"
After all, the 208 pages with 97 illustrations/photographs are limited to an edition of 1500 – and at 3.6 kg you also get something for your money. The title as part of the Assouline "Legends Collection": "Apple Music: 100 Best Albums". The work was created in connection with a "digital initiative" by Apple, in which experts such as Maren Morris, Pharrell Williams, J Balvin, Charli XCX, Mark Hoppus, Honey Dijon, Nia Archives and the Apple Music team selected the "best albums in more than 65 years".

These are presented in the book, including works by Travis Scott, Talking Heads and Billie Eilish. The book comes in a "slim, transparent acrylic slipcase, each with an individual edition number". The Apple Music logo can be seen on the outside. "Apple Music: 100 Best Albums" will be officially available from November 25. Interested parties can already pre-order it. Distribution via Apple stores, as with the design book, is apparently not planned – Assouline sells directly and shipping is free for orders over 200 euros. The page edges of the book are edged in gold and the numbering is done by hand.
Planting three trees per book
Each album entry contains Apple Music's "popular liner notes, an in-depth analysis of the album's significance both for the artists and for the art of music itself". "What we've found," said Zane Lowe, global creative director of Apple Music, "is that truly great albums are more than just a collection of songs – they become a part of you, a part of your life story. They are heartache, pain, trauma, joy, revolution and [at the same time] resolution."
Lowe, a long-time radio expert who has been involved in Apple Music radio since its launch, also wrote the foreword to the book. The language of the book is English. Publisher Assouline promises to plant three trees for every book sold as part of an environmental project.
