Varmfront: Ikea recalls power banks due to fire hazard
Ikea warns of a fire hazard with some of its Varmfront power banks. Customers will receive a full refund.

Some Ikea power banks from the Varmfront range apparently pose a fire risk. The Swedish furniture store has launched a recall for the affected models. Anyone returning their powerbank to Ikea will receive a full refund.
According to Ikea, some models in the Varmfront range with 10,400 mAh and 5,200 mAh are affected. For both variants, however, only models with certain version numbers are affected by the increased risk of fire and therefore the recall.
- Varmfront 10,400 mAh with the date stamps 2313, 2316, 2318, 2319
- Varmfront 5,200 mAh with the date stamps 2318, 2319, 2322

The date stamps can be seen on the bottom right of the back of all affected power banks. Ikea is asking owners of the affected models to stop using their Powerbanks and return them instead. To find out how to do this, call the Ikea hotline on 0800-2255453.
"Isolated manufacturing defect"
In its announcement, Ikea refers to an "isolated manufacturing defect" without going into further detail. It is unclear whether any fires have already occurred. "IKEA apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this recall," the company writes in its announcement.
"Ikea develops all of its products using a rigorous risk assessment and testing program to ensure that they comply with all applicable laws and standards of the countries in which they are sold," it continues. The power banks were manufactured in China.
Ikea continues to sell different variants of the Varmfront power bank in its online store - apparently these are newer versions that are no longer affected by the manufacturing defect. The Varmfront power banks currently on offer cost between 10 and 18 euros. (dahe)
