iOS 19 and co.: Work begins on Apple's next operating systems
iOS 19, macOS 16, watchOS 12 & visionOS 3: Apple has started work on the new systems before their predecessors are available. We already know that.

Apple has started work on its new operating systems, which are due to be released next fall. Many details are not yet known, but the first code names have been leaked. It is also clear that improvements to Apple Intelligence are to be expected.
Happiness, jubilation and discovery
According to the financial news agency Bloomberg, iOS 19 has the internal name "Luck", macOS 16 is apparently called "Cheer", watchOS 12 "Nepali" ("Nepalese") and visionOS 3 "Discovery". Apple always starts work on the new systems shortly before their predecessor versions are made available. iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15 aka Sequoia, watchOS 11 and visionOS 2 are expected from September.
Apple is said to be in the process of defining the new functions that will come with the updates. Key innovations within Apple Intelligence, including support for more languages and the more intelligent Siri, are expected to be released with iOS 18 and the like. However, Apple is also likely to add more with iOS 19 and the other operating systems. The AI features are a new central pillar for Apple, similar to iCloud. Updates are expected more frequently than with the cloud offering. "The future of the organization may depend on it."
When will Apple Intelligence for the Vision Pro arrive?
It is not entirely clear whether the AI services will be prepared for Apple's headset before visionOS 3. Currently, however, Apple Intelligence has not been announced for the Vision Pro. Technically, however, this is not a problem, according to Bloomberg. Apple is currently actively working on this. The Vision Pro works with an M2 SoC, has 16 GB of RAM, and therefore easily overcomes the necessary hardware hurdles for local large language models that Apple uses.
Functions such as AI sorting of notifications, text and image generation and support for ChatGPT could therefore appear with an update of visionOS 2, especially as the software is to be based internally on iPadOS technology, for which Apple Intelligence has long been announced. Cloud use should also not be a problem with the Vision Pro, the infrastructure is strong enough.
