iPhone: Three models are removed from the range, but old iron remains
With the iPhone 16, Apple is removing some models from its range – This is not really logical. Many people can't use Apple Intelligence.

Apple has restructured its range of smartphones following the launch of the iPhone 16 this week. In future, only three other devices will be offered in addition to the four iPhone 16 models –, at least via the company's own channels. The approach is partly surprising, as Apple is leaving devices in the range that are not compatible with Apple Intelligence – and removing models that are capable of AI technology.
iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max are out
In addition to the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max, Apple will only be selling the standard versions of the iPhone 14 and 15 as well as the iPhone SE 3. This means that only the latest models that are ready for Apple Intelligence will be available. iPhone 14, 15 and SE do not support the AI system – simply because they only have 6 GB of RAM. It is therefore surprising that Apple has removed the only two models that are currently capable of Apple Intelligence, namely the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, from the range.
It would have been more logical to remove the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus from the range – and leave the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. This means that people interested in Apple Intelligence are forced to switch straight to the iPhone 16 models, which start at 949 euros. It doesn't help that Apple wants to make the old models cheaper. Apparently, Apple does not want the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max to compete directly with the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models.
The devices are still available in stores
As always, although Apple is discontinuing iPhone models and no longer officially offers them on its website, most of them are still in stock in its own retail stores. The devices are also still available in regular stores, so it is worth taking a look at the heise price comparison. Prices are also expected to fall in the coming months.
An iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max is by no means scrap iron, runs Apple Intelligence (if available) without any problems and is a very fast smartphone. So you don't have to follow Apple's compulsion to have the latest of the latest. However, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max come with improved cameras, larger screens and the new camera control button, which the 15 models lack.
