WhatsApp will apparently soon have its own AI image generator
A beta version of WhatsApp shows the integration of Imagine, Meta's AI image generator. This will allow AI images to be created within the messenger.

WhatsApp is apparently working on integrating a practical AI image generator into the messaging app. The beta version 2.24.12.4 of WhatsApp for Android shows '"Imagine"' as an additional message attachment option. Imagine is known to be Meta's AI image generator. However, this function within WhatsApp is still under development and even beta testers cannot use it yet. It is therefore unclear when users will also be able to create images within WhatsApp using artificial intelligence.
At the end of 2023, Meta Platforms presented "Imagine", a standalone AI image generator for the web that uses artificial intelligence to create images from text input. Imagine is based on the same Meta AI foundation model as the image generator called Emu, which was presented at the end of September but is only used for Instagram and images created in the Facebook Group's Messenger. Soon, Meta's third platform, WhatsApp, should also receive this AI image generator.
So far, Meta AI as an AI chatbot is only available to a limited number of WhatsApp users in certain regions. But the company is already working on expanding the AI functions, as an analysis of the latest beta version of WhatsApp by WABetaInfo shows. According to this, users will also be able to generate individualized images via AI within the messaging app in the future.
New favorites function in addition to AI image generator
A screenshot of WhatsApp's beta version 2.24.12.4 for Android shows an additional entry for possible message attachments. This function takes over the name of Meta's AI image generator for the web with Imagine, so it can be assumed that it will have a similar function. As WhatsApp is also rolling out important functions for other mobile operating systems, iPhone owners as well as Android users are likely to receive AI image generation within WhatsApp. The only question is the timing.

Before that, however, WhatsApp users should receive another new feature, namely the marking of certain chats as favorites to be able to find these message histories more quickly. This feature is part of WhatsApp's beta version 2.24.12.7 for Android and is already available to some beta testers for testing. This should help users with numerous active chats in particular to find messages again.
As the favorites function, unlike AI image generation, can already be used by beta testers according to WABetaInfo, this feature is likely to be integrated into an official update for all WhatsApp users first. But even in this case, it is still unclear when Meta Platforms will actually roll this out.
