AI news: GitHub Copilot for Xcode, ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode for Mac

After Apple released Apple Intelligence features for the Mac for the first time this week with macOS 15.1, there is also news from other AI suppliers on the platform: The developer platform GitHub, which belongs to Microsoft, delivers new generative developer functions and the official ChatGPT client receives the advanced speech mode already known from the mobile version.

Faster development: Xcode also with Copilot

In addition to Apple's own coding assistant in Xcode, you can now also use GitHub Copilot. There is now a public preview for this, as the company has announced. A code completion function is already integrated, various languages from the Apple ecosystem (including Swift and Objective-C) are supported and, if desired, suggestions can be made that extend over several lines.

GitHub Copilot is also said to be able to automatically detect and filter out "harmful or inappropriate content". "This ensures that all code recommendations meet professional standards and contribute to a safe, respectful development environment".

Finally, there is also the option of having your own code checked for duplicates that are already in the public GitHub offering. In order to use GitHub Copilot in Xcode, you need your own license. This is available from 10 US dollars per month (100 US dollars per year) for individual developers. Business and enterprise licenses are more expensive. All licensees will automatically have access to the preview, according to GitHub.

ChatGPT becomes a Mac chatterbox

It was already possible to interact with the macOS version of ChatGPT by voice. However, the so-called Advanced Voice Mode, with which it was possible to interact much more realistically –, was previously only available in the mobile version of the application. OpenAI has now released an update to enable this feature on macOS, and Windows is also covered, according to X.

With the advanced speech mode, the voice output appears more natural, questions can be restarted and the AI interlocutor can be interrupted at any time without getting out of step. The flow of conversation should be better and ChatGPT behaves a little more like a human.

Other voices have also been added. However, the controversial Scarlett Johansson clone called "Sky" is still not available.
