Problems with iPhone 14 Plus: Apple launches camera replacement program
Some batches of the Plus model of the iPhone 14 contain serial defects. Apple is now launching an exchange program for this.

Apple launched a new service program for owners of certain iPhone models over the weekend. The "iPhone 14 Plus Service Program for Rear Camera Issues" is intended to help customers whose video and photo recordings are not working correctly, which is manifested by a failure of the preview image. Even if the hardware offered for the first time in fall 2022 is out of warranty, Apple wants to fix the error.

According to Apple, however, the affected devices are newer. It is a "small percentage of iPhone 14 Plus models". The affected devices were manufactured between April 10, 2023 and April 28, 2024, i.e. until this spring. Whether a device is covered by Apple's service program can be checked by entering the serial number; Apple publishes instructions on how to find this in its support area.
"If you're experiencing this issue with your iPhone 14 Plus, check the serial number below to see if your device qualifies for this program," Apple writes. "If it qualifies, Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will provide free service." This is possible in three ways: You can visit an Authorized Service Provider (ASP) near you, seek help at an Apple Retail Store at the Genius Bar or contact Apple's support directly to have the replacement/repair done by mail.

Fix other problems first
As usual, the iPhone 14 Plus must not have any damage that could prevent the camera from being repaired. According to Apple, this includes a cracked screen. In this case, "this problem must first be rectified before the actual service can take place". Depending on the fault, this can cost several hundred euros. Otherwise, as usual, a backup should be made before the repair –. A reset after backing up the device may also be useful for data protection reasons. Apple lists steps for preparing the repair here.
It is also possible that Apple will only accept devices for camera repair that are submitted in the same country of purchase. However, all EEA countries (EU plus Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) are covered, i.e. you can also have a device purchased in France repaired in Germany, for example.
