Beta news: iOS downloads as live activity, better AirPlay on the Mac
iOS 18.2 and macOS 15.2 are now available as a public beta. They also contain a few practical little things.

In addition to the Apple Intelligence image generators, which are active for the first time, Apple has included other useful new functions in iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2 and macOS 15.2 that have nothing to do with AI. This is reported by testers who have been able to obtain the public beta versions of the new operating systems since this week.
Yes, Safari can handle downloads on the iPhone
Apple is making its Safari browser on the iPhone even more similar to a desktop version. This is demonstrated by the fact that downloads will be displayed in the form of a live activity on the lock screen in future. From the iPhone 14 Pro onwards, this will also be displayed in the Dynamic Island of the smartphone, similar to what we know from playing music or waiting for a rental car. This means you can always see how far a major download – that then lands on the iPhone itself or in iCloud – has progressed.

Another new feature is a default app section in the system settings, which allows you to specify in one place what should be used for email, messaging, telephony or the browser; even the password manager and the keyboard app can be specified here. Other apps can also be deleted within the EU, including the Photos and Camera apps.
Mac with improved AirPlay
Under macOS 15.2, testers have also noticed an innovation in local AirPlay streaming. This now allows only limited areas to be forwarded to an AirPlay-enabled device such as an Apple TV. You can choose between the entire screen and a window. Alternatively, it is also possible to use an AirPlay receiver as an "extended screen" that complements that of the Mac. Interestingly, the option to share only individual windows or apps also appears when the Mac is connected to a monitor or TV via HDMI cable.
iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2 and macOS 15.2 will probably be released in December – probably at the beginning of the month. In terms of Apple Intelligence, support for the OpenAI service ChatGPT is also officially released. There are also improvements to the "Where is?" app, which now allows tracking links to be forwarded to trusted persons – such as airlines in the event of lost luggage –.
