In a user information, a mobile phone provider has announced when a new iPhone function will be released. This probably coincides with iOS 18.2.

The rumor mill is already certain that Apple's iOS 18.2 will be released sooner rather than later. Now, a British mobile phone provider has sent out information to its customers that seems to have fixed the specific date. As Macrumors has noticed, according to a forum entry, the company EE is planning to switch off a Wi-Fi calling function on December 9, which previously made it possible to route calls to other iCloud devices (such as Macs or iPads) via Wi-Fi. The downgrade of the functionality will be implemented with a new version 60.5.2 of the EE carrier settings – mobile settings, which every network operator is allowed to supply –. These carrier settings 60.5.2 are again known to be part of the second developer beta of iOS 18.2. It can therefore be concluded that the new operating system will also be released on December 9, together with the new EE carrier settings 60.5.2.
An early update would not be unusual
Apple had already announced that iOS 18.2 would be released in December. Such an update would be rather unusual around Christmas time, which is why the first half of the month was already expected. Accordingly, the date seems to fit well, especially as it is a Monday, a day Apple likes to use for operating system updates. These usually appear in the evening Central European Time, we estimate 7 pm.

The EE "leak" is of course no guarantee. Carrier settings are also released out of sequence from time to time, for example if there are compatibility problems between iOS and a particular mobile provider. However, this should not be the case here; this is a planned change to the usage options. Incidentally, the fact that this is now to be removed is very annoying for the EE customers affected, as it was a convenient function.
iOS 18.2 brings many improvements
iOS 18.2 is an important update for Apple. It provides – outside the EU – with numerous features in the Apple Intelligence area, including the image generator Image Playground and Genmojis, which can be used to create emojis using AI. Furthermore, the integration of ChatGPT in Siri will be released, AirTag tracking can be limited for airlines and other third parties, a new download display for Safari will be added and various other small features.
Along with iOS 18.2, Apple is also likely to update its other operating systems, including iPadOS 18.2 and macOS 15.2. The latter also offers access to Apple Intelligence in the EU, but only with US English language settings.
