Microsoft Authenticator as beta for Vision Pro
Companies with an Office 365 subscription were unable to use Word, Excel & Co. on the headset due to the lack of an authenticator. Now a beta is coming.

Owners of the Vision Pro who want to use Office 365 applications via their company have so far come up against a seemingly insurmountable hurdle: Ever since the headset went on sale in the USA in February –, the platform – has lacked the Microsoft Authenticator to register the device with the software company. If this is the case, customers have so far only been able to use the cloud versions of Excel, Word & Co. while the native versions, which Microsoft implemented for visionOS surprisingly quickly, have been left out. This is now changing: a beta version of the Microsoft Authenticator for visionOS has been available for the first time for five days.
Everything is there except the Authenticator
The software is distributed via Apple's TestFlight environment, which is also available under visionOS. "Logging in is easy, convenient and secure when you use Microsoft Authenticator," writes Microsoft. It is not yet possible to say how stable the beta is, but it seems to be doing what users expect it to do – finally let them into the apps. In the corporate customer context, Microsoft Authenticator has the special feature that the app must be running on the device itself in order to authenticate it. If it is missing there, access is also not possible, as is the case with Vision Pro.

Microsoft had already announced in April that it was working on a visionOS version of the Microsoft Authenticator –, when the company published the first version of OneNote. How it came about that Microsoft prepared the Office apps (including Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint) for visionOS, but apparently forgot the Microsoft Authenticator, has not yet been commented on.
One thing is still missing
While the Microsoft Authenticator for visionOS is already on its way, another feature is still missing: the use of Microsoft Intune with the headset. However, the endpoint management system for corporate customers is now also due to arrive, as can be seen from Microsoft's roadmap. In addition to visionOS, "Automated Device Enrollment" should also be possible for tvOS in the future without users having to intervene. However, the rollout is not scheduled to start until April 2025, according to the roadmap.
Apple recently emphasized once again the qualities of the Vision Pro as a productivity device. With visionOS 2.2, the Mac Virtual Display will receive a new panorama and widescreen mode, among other things.
