iPhone 17: New rumors about Pro and "Air"
Apple plans a series of innovations for its iPhones 2025, not just the ultra-thin “Air”, but also the Pro models.

There will be new iPhones again in September 2025. The 17 series promises to bring more changes to Apple's smartphones than in previous years – including redesigns to the form factor of the devices. Now more details have emerged about what Apple is planning – and they are quite exciting. This not only concerns the supposedly ultra-slim "iPhone 17 Air", which is also circulating in the rumor mill under the name "iPhone 17 Slim".
SIM card slot and Pro frame material
An article in the US IT news service The Information, which focuses in particular on the "iPhone 17 Air", states that Apple is apparently planning to remove the SIM card slot in other countries. Currently, the physical SIM is only missing in the USA, which Apple had already started to do with the iPhone 14. In China, iPhones are even sold with a double SIM card slot, while in Europe there is a combination of a physical slot and eSIMs. With the iPhone 17, the physical SIM could now be phased out worldwide, at least for the "iPhone 17 Air" – for reasons of space alone. This in turn could be bad news for the Chinese market, where the small access cards are still very popular.

However, it is also conceivable that Apple will omit the SIM from the other iPhone 17 models. Absurdly, Apple has not yet used the space saved in the US versions, which are equipped with a plastic plug. Furthermore, the new Pro could allegedly go back to aluminum instead of the titanium frame, writes The Information –, with "significant design changes". Until now, aluminum was only reserved for the cheaper models. The back of the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will again combine aluminum and glass, and the aluminum "camera bump" will be "rectangular".
Details on the "iPhone 17 Air"
The Information writes about the "iPhone 17 Air" that the device is "up to 5 mm thin". That would be even thinner than the 13-inch iPad Pro M4. There had recently been speculation that Apple might not be able to beat the iPhone 6 (6.9 mm) for technical reasons –, but this is apparently not the case. Furthermore, the thin iPhone only has one speaker, one rear camera (standard optics, no telephoto lens) and comes without mmWave for 5G, which Apple does not use in Europe anyway.
The modem is allegedly made by Apple itself, and the battery is said to be smaller than in other iPhones. Foxconn is apparently responsible for production, but there were initially problems installing all the components. The frame is made of aluminum, the display is reportedly 6.6 inches in size. The front camera reaches 24 megapixels, the rear camera 48 megapixels, there is Face ID, a Dynamic Island and an A19 SoC with at least 8 GB (for Apple Intelligence).
