– Apple's streaming service TV+ has always occupied a special niche: with the exception of a few series and short films –, there is no repertoire material like Netflix or Prime, but plenty of in-house productions that are only available from the iPhone manufacturer. To attract new users, there has long been a seven-day trial period (which once even lasted for months). In addition, buyers of various Apple products each receive 90 days of free access to TV+. But now Apple is making it even easier for those interested: this weekend, the video service can be used completely free of charge, as the company announced on X.
Shows without a subscription
Anyone interested in award-winning shows such as "Ted Lasso", "Shrinking" or "Severance", or who wants to watch TV+-exclusive movies such as "Wolfs" or "Napoleon", now has 48 hours to do so. "Stream for free Jan 4-5", Apple writes, i.e. next Saturday and next Sunday. It remains unclear exactly how this will be implemented – Currently, you always need an Apple account to access TV+. This is possible via a browser and various apps, which – are also available for televisions with Android TV in addition to various Apple devices –.
Videos by heise
It would be easiest for users if they could simply access it directly at the weekend without logging in. Apple is marketing the campaign as a kind of New Year's gift. In a short trailer video, various shows and films are presented and critical acclaim is shown. "Just watch it for yourself this weekend," the company advertises.
Normal rates
Apple TV+ normally costs €9.99 per month – and is therefore cheaper than competitors such as Prime or Netflix. However, this price has been significantly cheaper in the past. Initially, you only paid 4.99 euros for TV+, although the offer was also smaller. Apple then increased the prices several times until the company ended up with the current tariff.
TV+ is also part of Apple's in-house Apple One package, which also includes other services such as Fitness+ and iCloud storage. Apple summarizes details on support for smart TVs, games consoles and other reception devices on a separate website.
