Bosch eBike Systems: Theft protection for bike batteries
In the Bosch eBike Flow app, the bike battery can be digitally locked using "Battery Lock". According to the manufacturer, this makes it useless for thieves.
The "eBike Flow" smartphone app obtains the key from the e-bike battery. It can also be unlocked via the Kiox 300 and 500 hardware displays.
Bosch is extending the digital theft protection of its eBike systems to bicycle batteries, as this component is apparently particularly popular with thieves. According to the manufacturer, the "Battery Lock" function means that an eBike battery can no longer be used without a digital key. The perpetrator may not notice this immediately when the bike is stolen, but it should deter repeat offenders.
Battery Lock extends the "eBike Lock" protection mechanism, in which the bike drive provides a digital key that users have to confirm electronically to unlock the motor before starting the ride. The security functions available to date also include the "eBike Alarm". This provides information about the bike's location.

The motor and battery can be unlocked either using the 'eBike Flow' smartphone app or via the Kiox 300 and Kiox 500 hardware displays. The app is available for Android and iOS. Users who use a hardware display in addition to the app can use both for unlocking.
Digital theft protection
Removable batteries are usually secured mechanically with a lock. Bosch enhances this protection with its digital system, but does not intend to replace it. Once set up, it automatically locks the battery when the bike is switched off.
According to Bosch, Battery Lock is compatible with all Bosch batteries in the smart system such as PowerTube and PowerPack as well as the Bosch PowerMore 250 Range Extender.
Prices and availability
Battery Lock will be available from summer 2025 and requires a paid Flow+ subscription. It costs €4.99 per month or €39.99 per year. In addition to Lock and Alarm, Flow+ also provides a navigation system and information on the charge level and power output compared to the engine power.
