iPhone SE 4 and iPad 11 in April rather than sooner
While some rumor mongers claim that Apple could still release the new iPhones and iPads in January, a well-known reporter takes a completely different view.

When will the first new Apple products be released this year? After speculation that this could happen relatively quickly, there is now contrary information from a usually authoritative source. Initially, several leakers – including some who were previously correct – claimed that the fourth iPhone SE and the eleventh iPad could be released together with iOS 18.3 and iPadOS 18.3 respectively. Their availability is expected towards the end of January, as Apple released iOS 15.3, iOS 16.3 and iOS 17.3 at the same time. This would be relatively unusual, as Apple has always released the iPhone SE of previous generations in March or April.
A bit of calm before the new devices
In the meantime, it looks like it will probably stay that way. On Tuesday, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who is considered to be well-informed, wrote that the iPhone SE 4 and iPad 11 were developed as part of iOS 18.3 (and iPadOS 18.3), but in his opinion, this does not mean that they will be released together with the operating system. He therefore considers claims of a launch in January to be “completely untrue”. Gurman himself continues to assume April, “should the plan be adhered to” – and even before iOS 18.4.

Most recently, there were rumors about a name change for the iPhone SE 4. Apple is reportedly planning to call it the “iPhone 16e” (with a small “e”) instead. But that would also be rather unusual, as Apple keeps the devices in its range for years, which makes a number seem unwise. “SE 4” is just the name from the rumor mill, anyway; Apple always calls the current generation “iPhone SE”.
What the new models should be able to do
In addition to the iPhone SE 4, an iPad 11, the next incarnation of the standard tablet model, is also set to be released. This is expected to have more main memory and support for Apple Intelligence; after a form factor adjustment for the iPad 10, little else is likely to change. Likewise, It is conceivable that Apple will use its own 5G chip and Bluetooth/WLAN unit for the first time.
The iPhone SE 4 aka 16e gets a new look with Face ID, notch and OLED screen plus a more modern SoC with Apple Intelligence. Apple's 5G chip plus network processor can also be expected here. Apple has been working on both projects for years and wants to make itself independent of Qualcomm and Broadcom.
