Android smartphone Poco X7 Pro: Xiaomi's new mid-range smartphone

Xiaomi is starting the new year with two new smartphones under the Poco brand. In addition to the Poco X7 Pro, a special edition and a cheaper variant are also being launched.

The Poco X7 Pro is powered by a Mediatek chip. The Dimensity 8400 Ultra is manufactured using the 4-nanometer process and is an octa-core chip. The maximum clock frequency is 3.25 GHz. The MediaTek NPU 880 is responsible for AI acceleration.

The OLED display of the X7 Pro measures 6.67 inches diagonally and achieves a refresh rate of 120 hertz. Xiaomi specifies the typical brightness at 700 cd/m², while the dot illumination is said to be up to 3000 cd/m². The smartphone has a 50-megapixel main camera with a large f/1.5 aperture and a Sony IMX882 sensor. There is also an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a front camera with a resolution of 20 megapixels.

The 6000 mAh battery in the smartphone, which weighs just under 200 grams, should provide sufficient stamina. It is charged with a suitable power adapter with a maximum of 90 watts. Available in three color variants – black, green and black-yellow –, the Poco X7 Pro is protected against the ingress of dust and water to IP68, a first for Poco.

Marvel fans can look forward to the Iron Man edition of the Poco X7 Pro. Technically, there is nothing new here, but the back has been designed with the comic hero's helmet. The software uses the Iron Man red as a color accent for the edges around the icons. AI functions such as an eraser for removing people and objects from the photos or a tool for expanding the images to include calculated areas are also on board. The manufacturer does not reveal how long Xiaomi will provide the smartphone with updates.

Poco X7 also with Mediatek chip

The Poco X7 without the Pro in its name is somewhat weaker. It is also equipped with a Mediatek chip, albeit the slower Dimensity 7300 Ultra. The display here also measures 6.67 inches and achieves 120 Hertz with the same resolution, but Xiaomi specifies slightly lower brightness values of 500 cd/m² in normal operation, although 3000 cd/m² is also said to be possible here at times at the peak. The display of the Poco X7 is covered with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 instead of Gorilla Glass 7i as in the Pro. At 5110 mAh, its battery is weaker than that of the Pro and only charges with up to 45 watts.

There is hardly any difference between the X7 and the Pro model in terms of cameras; the main and front cameras as well as the selfie camera are identical. The X7 also has a 2-megapixel macro camera on the back, but its effect is questionable. Like the more expensive model, the Poco X7 is also protected to IP68. Three color variants are available, in addition to green and silver, the X7 is also available in black with yellow stripes as an accent.

Prices and availability

The new Poco smartphones start at 299.90 euros. This price includes the Poco X7 with 8/256 GB storage, while the model with 12/512 GB storage is 349.90 euros more expensive. The better equipped Poco X7 Pro is available for 369.90 (8/256 GB) or 429.90 euros (12/512 GB), depending on the storage size. The Iron Man edition, which is only available with 12 GB RAM and 512 GB internal memory, costs a little more, namely just under 450 euros. As an "early bird offer", Xiaomi is including a 120-watt power supply and either the Buds 5 in-ear headphones or the Xiaomi Smart Air Fryer 5.5L in the Iron Man Edition package at a reduced price of 399.90 euros. All new Poco smartphones are available immediately.
