The manufacturer DVX is presenting its Night Storm X1 infrared night vision device at CES. DVX developed it as part of a Kickstarter campaign and plans to ship the finished product shortly. The device is designed to image objects up to 1200 meters away at night. It uses three infrared LEDs with a wavelength of 850 nanometers.

The target group is private users such as outdoor enthusiasts and wildlife photographers, but also security personnel. The 750 gram device measures 23 cm in length and is just under 16 cm wide.

One lens provides a conventional camera function, the other is responsible for night vision with infrared. A built-in Sony Starvis 2 CMOS sensor has a resolution of 52 megapixels (9600 Ă— 5400 pixels). The binoculars connect to an Android smartphone or Apple iPhone via WLAN.

The associated app shows a live preview and records still and moving images. The app saves photos in full sensor resolution. It records videos in 4K resolution. The device stores the media either via the app on the smartphone or directly on a microSD card.

An LCD with a three-inch diagonal and a low resolution of 360 Ă— 640 pixels shows a live preview directly on the device. It is not possible to look directly through the lens, as with an SLR camera.

The device is delivered in a polystyrene box with a manual.

With a focal length of 42 mm and 13 degrees, the device provides a wide field of view. An eightfold digital zoom brings distant subjects closer. It offers four infrared operating modes for different lighting conditions.

It is protected against the ingress of dust and splash water in accordance with the IP65 standard, but not against submersion. However, it is said to be suitable for harsh environments such as deserts and rainforests.

The 5000 mAh battery is said to last up to 18 operating hours. However, this only refers to use without infrared modes. The manufacturer does not provide any information on the operating time with the main function switched on. The battery should be fully charged in around one hour. It can also be charged during operation via USB-C. There is a tripod thread on the underside.

The night vision device will be available worldwide from March 2025 at a list price of 299 US dollars. Supporters of the Kickstarter campaign will receive it for 149 US dollars.
