Redmi Note 14: Five new Xiaomi smartphones are coming

The Poco X7 is followed by the Redmi Note 14 series. Xiaomi is starting the year with its two cheaper product families, in the case of Redmi with five different smartphones. Only three of them support 5G mobile networks.

The top model of the five-pack has the longest name: Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G. The smartphone with a metal frame and faux leather back is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, which can access 8 or 12 GB of RAM depending on the model. The IP68 dust and water-protected casing houses a 6.67-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of 120 hertz and 2712 x 1220 pixels. Samsung specifies the maximum dot brightness as 3000 cd/m², but it will not reach this value in normal operation.

The smartphone has a 200-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle and a 2-megapixel macro on the back and a 20-megapixel selfie camera on the front. The battery of the 5G smartphone, which also supports a programmable eSIM, has a capacity of 5110 mAh and charges with a maximum of 120 watts. A suitable fast charger is included in the scope of delivery. Like the other two Pro models, Xiaomi intends to provide the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G with three new Android versions and four years of security patches –, thus remaining below the five-year period after the end of sale that the EU will prescribe in future.

The Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G is also priced in the mid-range with a price of 499.90 euros for the 8/256 GB storage configuration. Xiaomi charges 30 euros more for the model with 12/512 GB, which should be worth the larger memory.

Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G without Plus with a weaker chip

The Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G joins the Plus model with largely identical technology and only minor visual changes. It shares the display, camera, memory and battery with the Pro+. However, with the Mediatek Dimensity 7300, it has a slightly weaker chip on board.

The Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G is also available in two storage sizes. It costs €399.90 with 8/256 GB of storage and €449.90 with 12/512 GB of storage.

The third Redmi Note 14 Pro not only has no Plus, but also no 5G in its name. Accordingly, it only works in the LTE network and is therefore at a disadvantage compared to some cheaper smartphones. Xiaomi also installs the same camera in this model as in the other Pro models, but the display has a slightly lower resolution (2400 x 1080 pixels) and does not achieve the same brightness (maximum 1800 cd/m² dot brightness). However, the OLED screen also supports a 120 Hertz frame rate.

The Note 14 Pro uses a Mediatek Helio G100 Ultra processor. At 5500 mAh, its battery is slightly more powerful than that of its two brothers, but only charges at a maximum of 45 watts. The device does not have IP certification.

Xiaomi sells the Redmi Note 14 Pro at a price of 349.90 euros with 8/256 GB of storage; no other storage versions are currently planned for Germany. For a smartphone without a 5G modem, this is not particularly cheap despite the overall decent features.

Two smartphones without Pro

Xiaomi offers two basic variants alongside the three Pro models. The Redmi Note 14 5G has the same display as the Note 14 Pro, but the manufacturer even specifies the maximum brightness here as 2100 cd/m². The biggest drawbacks compared to the Pro models are the camera, which only has a maximum resolution of 108 megapixels and a less elaborately designed lens with six instead of seven lenses. The Redmi Note 14 5G, which supports 5G but no eSIM, also has an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle and a 2-megapixel macro. It is IP64-protected, meaning it can withstand dust and dirt, but only splash water and not submersion. This model receives four years of security patches and only a meagre two major Android updates.

The Redmi Note 14 5G costs 299.90 euros and the smartphone is only available in the 8/256 GB storage version. As with all new Redmis, the charger, in this case one with an output of 45 watts, is included in the scope of delivery.

The quintet is completed by the second model without a 5G modem, the Redmi Note 14, which also features a Mediatek chip, the Helio G99 Ultra, which can access 6 or 8 GB of RAM. Even the cheapest of the five models has an OLED display with 120 Hertz and up to 1800 cd/m² brightness. It shares the 108-megapixel main camera with the Note 14 5G, while the ultra-wide angle has been replaced by a 2-megapixel depth camera. Curious: The weakest and cheapest of the new Redmi smartphones receives the longest updates, namely six years of security patches and four new Android versions.

With a price of 199.90 euros, the version with 6/128 GB is the cheapest. For 229.90 euros, you can get the Redmi Note 14 with 8 GB RAM instead of 6 GB, and for 249.90 euros, the internal memory is also increased to 256 GB.
