New home device from Apple allegedly later, date for new Apple TV set
When will Apple launch new devices for the smart home? A well-known journalist has heard new dates, but is disappointed with one device.

For months, there have been serious rumors that Apple is planning a new “home device” or “home accessory”. It could be a kind of command center for HomeKit, which comes as a kind of mini iPad – alternatively also with a speaker base. There is also speculation that a “HomePod with display” could also appear for the first time – either in addition or as a “home device”. Previously, it was said that the hardware could be released soon, possibly as early as spring 2025, but Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman has now dismissed this: In his newsletter from the weekend, he now talks about how it “could take longer for [the device] to reach customers”. There is better news about a second HomePod mini and a new generation of the Apple TV. Both are now supposedly coming by the end of the year.
Home device: problems with software?
Apple originally intended to launch the Home device on the market in March 2025. However, there are allegedly issues with the intended operating system called homeOS, which in turn is based on tvOS. It is “strongly linked to Apple Intents”, the interface that is also intended for Siri control of apps on the iPhone. homeOS, whose internal code name is said to be “Pebble”, uses functions from iOS 18.4 and iOS 19.

Although iOS 18.4 should be available by March, iOS 19 is not scheduled until fall 2025. It is therefore “plausible that the hardware itself will be delivered a little later”. It should help Apple to drive forward key new developments after 2025: A better Siri, with which you can have real conversations, as well as further new smart home hardware from Apple. There are reports of a smart doorbell with Face ID and a security camera that will be particularly privacy-friendly.
Next small HomePod plus Apple TV
As mentioned, Gurman expects the HomePod mini 2 and Apple TV to be released by the end of the year. Both devices should fit into the Group's smart home ecosystem. The HomePod mini dates back to 2020 and has so far only been given new colors, while the Apple TV box was last changed by the company in 2022.
Both devices are not suitable for Apple Intelligence in their current state because they lack the necessary chip technology and sufficient RAM. There is little information on the details of the new devices to date. They are likely to receive mainly internal improvements; it remains unclear whether a display is planned for the HomePod mini 2.
