iPhone SE: Old model harder to get – Is variant 4 coming soon?
Apple's next entry-level smartphone is set to be released this spring. There are now indications of this from the sales channel.

Is the long-awaited successor to the iPhone SE 3 perhaps coming sooner than expected after all? The inventory of old devices in Apple's own retail stores is said to have fallen sharply in recent days, reports the financial news agency Bloomberg. "According to people who work in Apple's retail stores, a surprisingly large number of US stores have little or no stock of the iPhone SE," the report states. Although the iPhone SE 3 is still available –, for example online within a few days –, it is becoming "harder and harder" to simply purchase the device in the nearest Apple store.
EU already no longer has the devices
In the European Union, the iPhone SE 3 had already been taken off the market by Apple in December anyway. However, the reason for this was the end of the Lightning connector due to the EU's USB-C restrictions. Apple had also discontinued the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, as these also only have Lightning ports. In contrast to the AirPods Max, for example, the company apparently saw no sensible way of retrofitting a USB-C port to the models.

The iPhone 14 is now only sold as an entry-level model, while the SE 3 is to be replaced by a successor, as mentioned above. However, the iPhone SE 3 and iPhone 14 or 14 Plus are not completely impossible to buy in this country: Dealers currently still have the last stocks available.
New technology in the iPhone SE 4
The iPhone SE 4, which has also been rumored as the "16E" in the meantime, is codenamed V59. It apparently comes in the look of the iPhone 14 with Face ID facial recognition and notch, internally it relies on the Apple Intelligence-capable A18 chip with 8 GB. There is said to be a 48-megapixel camera. The 5G modem is reportedly coming from Apple itself for the first time and not from Qualcomm. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are also said to come from in-house production, even if the chip is not integrated into the 5G modem, as Apple originally intended.
The end of stock in Apple's own stores is usually a sign that there will soon be successor models. This could suggest that Apple will release the SE 4 in February after all. However, there have recently been rumors that it could take until March or even April. The price of the SE 4 will also be interesting. In the EU, it is unlikely to be less than 500 euros.
