iOS 19: New look for the camera app?
Apple's camera app is style-defining: Samsung & Co. are also inspired by the design of the application. A refresh may come with iOS 19, with special inspiration.

Apple may be planning a redesign of its popular camera app on the iPhone. The redesign could come with iOS 19, which is expected to be unveiled in June at the WWDC 2025 developer conference. This is according to YouTuber Jon Prosser. According to his information, which is said to come from informed sources, the entire menu navigation is set to change. Interestingly, the look is based on the visionOS version of the application, including partially transparent menus with rounded corners.
Apple sets the style
Apple had already introduced the current look of the camera app with iOS 7. The minimalist design with yellow and white controls on a black background quickly spread to the competition, with the official camera apps from Samsung and Google (stock Android) looking very similar to Apple's version. A refresh would therefore make sense.

In addition to the changed design, which also includes a small image preview, a shutter release and the switch for the selfie and rear camera alongside the outlined menu area, the operation is also set to change. Apparently, there are two central buttons for photo and video and operation by turning more. Other modes can be accessed via a drop-down menu. If there are more settings, these should appear automatically in the upper area. In the photo area, there is a menu with four icons right at the top, covering depth of field, spatial photo mode, panorama and photographic style.
(Even) more minimalist look
With the redesign, Apple would tidy up the camera app a little more, making it look (once again) more minimalist without having to search for important functions for a long time. The visionOS-inspired look in turn supports an old rumor that iOS 18 would be based on the Vision Pro operating system. However, this speculation quickly came to nothing.
It remains to be seen how realistic the Prosser leak is. However, Apple is likely to have long since set the direction for iOS 19 internally. Work on it began shortly after the presentation of iOS 18, even though there was and will be a lot of reworking on the current iPhone operating system this year due to Apple Intelligence. iOS 19 will be final in the fall of 2025 if Apple sticks to its usual schedule.
