Netflix has reason to celebrate: in the past quarter, the US streaming service broke the 300 million user mark for the first time. This was made possible by a record increase of 19 million new subscribers, which also brought the streaming service increased revenue and profit. Nevertheless, Netflix plans to raise subscription prices again.
In the USA, Canada and Argentina, Netflix will be charging more for all subscription levels in the future. In the USA, for example, the price for the advertising-based subscription will rise from 7 to 8 US dollars per month, while the standard subscription will increase in price from 15.50 US dollars to 18 US dollars. The premium subscription with 4K resolution will cost 25 US dollars instead of 23 US dollars.
Portugal still cheaper than Germany
Portugal is the only European country for which Netflix has currently announced price increases. Comparability with Germany is difficult despite the euro currency, because there is currently no ad-based version of Netflix available in Portugal. Instead, the basic plan is still available there, which was abolished in Germany last year. In the future, it will cost 9 instead of 8 euros per month.
Netflix is raising the price of the standard subscription in Portugal from 12 to 13 euros per month. In Germany, the subscription already costs 14 euros. A similar picture emerges for the premium subscription: the price is being raised from 16 to 18 euros in Portugal, while in Germany, you already pay 20 euros.

The figures therefore do not necessarily indicate an imminent price increase in Germany and Austria – Nevertheless, a look at the USA raises fears that Netflix could soon raise its prices again in Central Europe. Netflix last increased its prices in Germany last April.
In the past quarter, Netflix generated a profit of 1.87 billion US dollars.
