Kensington security for the Mac mini M4
Apple's new Mac mini is small and light. However, this also allows unauthorized people to take it. Kensington now offers something to prevent this.

The Mac mini M4 weighs just over 700 grams. In combination with the shrunken external dimensions, Apple's new compact computer fits into almost any carrying bag or backpack. This should be borne in mind by companies that place the systems in areas accessible to the public: Potential thieves only need to unplug the power cable, the screen cable, perhaps the network cable and any USB-C accessories, and the small aluminum box is gone. Apple has therefore now launched an initial fastening solution on the market together with Kensington.
Steel frame and various mounting options
The official Kensington lock for the Mac mini M4 is called “Kensington Security Mount for Mac mini” and has been available in the Apple Online Store since the end of last week and is even ready to order and pick up in the first Apple retail stores. At a price of 79.95 euros, you get a combination of a special frame for the Mac mini M4, including chain and combination lock. For clever thieves with tools, both can be overcome, but the main aim of such a solution is to deter opportunist thieves. After all, a fully equipped Mac mini M4 Pro can cost Apple up to 5444 euros.

According to Apple, the Kensington mount can be used as a “mounting bracket, locking kit or both”. Care has been taken to ensure that the infamous power button on the underside remains accessible. “[The security mount] is specifically designed to provide a secure grip while allowing convenient access to the Mac mini's power button and ports,” Apple writes.
NanoSaver combination lock and other specifications
The frame of the holder is made of sheet steel. It can be mounted “on, under or next to any solid surface”. The Kensington combination lock (“NanoSaver”) must be used, although variants with keys are also available in stores.
The Kensington mount for the Mac mini weighs half a kilo, the cable length is 182.9 cm. The shackle flap is made of silicone to prevent scratches. The cable lock itself is made of carbon steel with a nylon sheath, the locking head is made of zinc.
