Universal Cable from Nomad: Apple Watch charger passes on power
Charging a computer watch from Apple does not have to occupy an entire USB-C port. With a new cable, the connection can still be used thanks to pass-through.

If you want to charge your Apple devices on the go, you need to have a lot of cables with you. Although most products now use USB-C connections, there are exceptions. For example, the Apple Watch can only be supplied with power using a special charging puck. In addition, charging always requires at least one USB-C port. The Apple accessory specialist Nomad now has an interesting solution for this: the new Universal Cable for Apple Watch, which has been available since this week, combines charging the computer watch with power forwarding – an absolute novelty.
Cable simply leads out again
The cable is plugged with the charging puck, which has a short USB-C connector, either directly into a charger, a Mac, or an iPad. The Apple Watch or alternatively AirPods with wireless charging case are then placed there. What's new: A cable with a total length of 1.5 m leads out of the other side of the charging puck. You can then plug any other USB-C device into it, such as an iPhone, a camera or an iPad.
In practice, this means that you can always charge two devices at the same time with the Universal Cable for Apple Watch, but only occupy one port. The charging puck is also capable of fast charging, and the cable allows up to 100 watts to pass through via USB power delivery. It is Kevlar-reinforced and has an integrated retractor. However, the price is unattractive: with delivery charges to Germany including taxes, the Universal Cable for Apple Watch costs a hefty 111 euros, and as much as 118 euros for express delivery.

“Made for Apple Watch” certification
Nomad received approval from Apple when developing the cable, so it bears the “Made for Apple Watch” logo. The aim is to charge Apple Watch, AirPods, and other USB-C devices with just one cable. This saves space and ports. In addition, you don't just carry the charging puck around with you, which you only need for the Apple Watch. Of course, you can also use the Universal Cable without the computer watch attached.
The idea of using a USB-C cable to create charging options for several components is becoming increasingly popular. Anker also recently presented a dual charging cable with two USB-C plugs. It has an integrated, compact distributor that can transfer up to 140 watts.
