Visual Intelligence: Apple wants to add AI function for iPhone 15 Pro
Until now, the ability to analyze content recorded via camera using Apple Intelligence was only available on certain devices. This is set to change.

Apple will also deliver the Visual Intelligence function for older iPhones that support Apple Intelligence. The company announced this to a US Apple blogger. "Apple representatives told me that owners of the iPhone 15 Pro will soon be able to access Visual Intelligence via their action button," said John Gruber. This will happen "in a future software update". He suspects that this is already iOS 18.4, although its beta phase has still not been launched. The update will also make Apple Intelligence available in other European languages, including German, for the first time.
iPhone 16e can already use Visual Intelligence
According to Apple, Visual Intelligence allows you to "quickly learn more about the places and objects around you". Until now, the four models in the iPhone 16 series have required the Camera Control button to be pressed. However, both the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max and the new iPhone 16e lack this feature. In the latter, Apple has placed Visual Intelligence on the Action Button for the first time. As mentioned, this is now also planned for the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, but only with new software.

Among other things, Visual Intelligence can provide information about restaurants or companies, translate and summarize texts (as well as read them aloud) and identify plants and animals. Apple uses its own AI technology as well as help from Google. So far, however, this can only be used on devices on which Apple Intelligence is active, which in turn depends on the language settings of the device (English) and the Apple ID for purchases in the App Store (and for media content). As mentioned, this will only be possible in German in April.
It will probably be ready by April
In the USA, it is also possible to use Visual Intelligence to make restaurant reservations or order delivery services. Most recently, it was also possible to create calendar events, for example when you have a concert poster in front of your lens. Only Apple knows why Visual Intelligence was explicitly linked to the presence of the camera control and cannot be triggered in any other way –, for example via the control center –.
Initially, it was assumed that this was a marketing measure for the 16 models. However, with the release of the 16e without camera control, the company now felt compelled to retrofit this to the Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. It is still unclear when iOS 18.4 will be released, but as mentioned, it must be in or before April.
