Microsoft has recently released several Windows preview versions in various Insider channels. The manufacturer is working on several features and correcting errors. The snipping tool is also learning new skills.
In the middle of last week, Microsoft published a release preview version of Windows 11 on build 26100.3321, which provides a preview of features that will soon be available to everyone. An improvement to the battery icon in the taskbar has been earmarked for the gradual roll-out. It should now reflect the status in terms of color: Green means the computer is charging and is in good condition. Yellow indicates an energy-saving mode – Windows switches to this mode by default from a battery level of 20 percent. Red indicates a low charge level, the computer should be connected to the charging cable as soon as possible. As with smartphones, for example, the option to display the percentage charge level directly next to the battery icon will now also be added.
Release preview corrects OpenSSH service
The OpenSSH service no longer started, which meant that no SSH connections were possible. The detailed logging did not take place and interested parties had to start the "sshd.exe" manually. This should be a thing of the past from this build onwards.

Towards the end of last week, Microsoft added further new functions in the dev and beta channels of the Windows Insider Program with build 26120.3291 of Windows 11. In particular, improvements for Copilot+ PCs are on the horizon. Snapdragon-based Copilot+ machines will be able to use Windows Search to find files stored in the cloud, for example. As an example, Microsoft shows how photos from the cloud can be found using content descriptions.
The controversial Recall AI function also restarts – Windows deletes all previous snapshots. If the function is activated, Recall will continue to take screen snapshots for later searches with this build. However, Microsoft does not provide any details about the changes, but merely refers to an "improved user experience".
Improved snipping tool
Microsoft is distributing version 11.2501.7.0 of the snipping tool to insiders in the Dev and Canary channels. It has a trimming function that allows the start and end of a screen video recording to be cut away. After recording a click, interested parties should open the recording, click the "Trim" button at the top of the window and then use the markers to adjust the start and end times. The clip is trimmed with Apply, "Cancel" discards the settings.

The Windows build also corrects some minor errors in various Windows components. Interested parties can log in to the Windows Insider Program in the system settings under Windows Update to access the new test versions.
Microsoft always includes interesting new functions in the preview versions of Windows. Around two weeks ago, for example, Microsoft distributed Windows MIDI Services in the Canary channel – an open-source MIDI stack that adds support for modern MIDI 2.0.
