In addition to Face ID facial recognition, another Apple technology could play a central role in Apple's allegedly planned first front doorbell. New rumors now deal with the question of charging the mobile device, which apparently does not necessarily need its own power cable as a power supply.
"MagSafe at the door, it's ringing" is the message from a leaker on the social network X who is operating under a pseudonym. The user, who calls himself Kosutami, is apparently alluding to the fact that the Apple doorbell can be charged wirelessly using Apple's MagSafe magnetic charging technology. Apple would not be the first company to supply a retrofittable doorbell for the smart home with power via a rechargeable battery. MagSafe would be a convenient feature here.
Part of a major offensive
The Apple bell is to be part of the iPhone manufacturer's smart home offensive, which industry observers still have many question marks over. In addition to improved software, the first pillar could be a robot-like device that can be used to control the smart home on a display. The doorbell, which is intended to compete with Amazon's Ring products, for example, is only planned for a later date and is currently still at an early stage of development.

What is still missing from the rumor mill equation is what is supposed to make Apple's first major foray into HomeKit special. Is it the software that could perhaps be docked onto Apple's artificial intelligence, Apple Intelligence? Apple already has a HomeKit interface for surveillance cameras. However, doorbell devices often come with their own app and signal the ringing with a push notification or a call on the device.
The doorbell, which should also be able to identify people standing in front of the door using Face ID, may also be able to be used in conjunction with HomeKit-compatible locks, reported the US financial news agency Bloomberg. This would not only signal in the Home app via video app that someone is ringing the doorbell. It could also function as a smart access control system.
