Apple TV+: More content from Europe, including a hospital show from Berlin
Following Netflix, Apple is also increasingly focusing on content from regions outside the USA for its streaming service. Krank Berlin" has just been launched.

Content from Germany and other regions of the world instead of just US content: Apple is increasingly focusing on such series and films for its TV+ streaming service. The reason for this is customer demand: Netflix is also seeing increasing demand for content that does not originate from America. For example, videos whose original language is not English now account for a third of all views on the streaming market leader. And this goes far beyond “Squid Game” (South Korea) or “La Palma” (Norway).
Krank(enhaus) series from Berlin
Apple TV+ launched the new show “Krank Berlin” aka “Berlin ER” this week, which deals with the conditions in a fictional hospital in the German capital, where serious cases of illness come up against violence, drugs, and partygoers. Despite the clichéd portrayal of Berlin, initial reviews are quite positive. “A merciless and increasingly complicated healthcare system forces the headstrong team to put aside their differences to work together to save lives,” reads Apple's description.

Other non-US current TV+ content includes “Where's Wanda?” (also from Germany), “Midnight Family” and “You Would Do It Too” (from Spain) or “La Maison” (from France). Apple is now said to produce around one new piece of non-English content per month. Nevertheless, US series such as “Severance” or “Shrinking” are still in the foreground and have so far achieved the highest viewing figures. Nevertheless, Apple is trying to appeal to a global audience.
Apple TV+ remains a forge for original content
“Krank Berlin” was originally planned for Sky, but they abruptly ended their own German productions. Apple then took over, interestingly in collaboration with the public youth channel ZDFneo, where the show will presumably appear later. The script was written by Samuel Jefferson, who himself had worked as an emergency doctor in the UK.
TV+ is offered for 9.99 euros per month, which is now cheap compared to Netflix or Disney+. However, there are still mainly in-house productions and only occasional repertoire material such as classic films, which are then soon removed from the program.
