Things have been comparatively quiet around the Vision Pro, even though Apple regularly provides its headset with updates that improve its functionality. In the USA, the device, which costs just under 4000 euros in this country, is now being used in DIY stores to help customers select furnishing parts. A corresponding pilot is now being extended to other stores. Meanwhile, Apple itself has expanded its free immersive content for the Vision Pro to include a concert by a well-known rock band.

Shortly after the Vision Pro was made available a year ago, the US DIY chain Lowe's equipped various stores in California, New Jersey and North Carolina with the headset. There, users who wanted to renovate their kitchen could view various 3D views and choose from numerous materials, construction methods and add-ons such as kitchen appliances. The idea is to plan the kitchen as completely and realistically as possible in augmented or virtual reality. It can then be ordered in the same way.

After the campaign was well received in the test stores – each session lasts 45 minutes and offers up to 65 billion combinations – it is now being rolled out. Five more stores are being added in Texas. Use of the “Lowe's Style Studio”, for which the DIY chain had an app specially developed, is free of charge. Completed plans can be emailed from the headset or sent to your cell phone via AirDrop.

Another Vision Pro innovation concerns Apple's range of Spatial Video, which the manufacturer is constantly expanding. The rockers from Metallica performed for the company (and the fans) at a concert in Mexico City and had themselves filmed with special equipment.

From Friday, the performance will be available online in the form of three songs. Unfortunately, “Nothing Else Matters” will not be played, but “Enter Sandman”, “One” and “Whiplash” will be. Apple promises “ultra-high-definition 3D video” with a 180-degree field of view and 3D audio. There will be different angles from which to view the show.
