Studio Display 2: Allegedly several variants planned
According to a report, Apple is working on several large displays in parallel. The company has been waiting for a new Studio Display since 2022.

According to a media report, Apple's display department is working on several new display models for the desktop. Apparently, a successor to the Studio Display, which the manufacturer launched together with the first Mac Studio in 2022, is in the pipeline – and, interestingly, not just this one. According to a Bloomberg report from the weekend, a model codenamed J427 is set to appear at the end of 2025 or beginning of 2026. But that's not all: a second device, codenamed J527, is in the pipeline.

The current Studio Display is based on a panel from the 27-inch iMac with an Intel chip. It was without much competition for a long time, but there are now a number of interesting alternatives. J427 is intended to counter this again – with HDR support and a higher refresh rate, for example. J527 could now either be a second model that is being developed in parallel or its successor.

Apple currently sells the Pro Display XDR alongside the Studio Display. This is even older than the Studio Display and is extremely expensive. It was launched in December 2019, but still costs at least €5499 from Apple – without the stand, for which you pay an additional €1099. However, no technical details have been leaked about either the J427 or the J527.
LG and Samsung with alternatives
If you don't want a more modern widescreen display right away, you can also turn to competitors such as LG or Samsung, which are more Apple-oriented, as an alternative to the Studio Display. A new UltraFine 6K from LG offers 32 inches and even Thunderbolt 5, although no prices or availability have been announced yet. Dell has also launched a 32-inch 6K display that supports Thunderbolt 4 and could be used as an alternative to the Pro Display XDR.
The Dell device is less than half the price. Apple recently updated the Mac Studio with an M4 Max chip or alternatively M3 Ultra. However, no new displays were presented. If the Bloomberg report is correct, we will have to be patient.
