Dobot Robotics shows humanoid robot Atom for 27,500 US dollars

Humanoid robots should not be expensive if they are to help out in the home or in industry. The Atom from Dobot Robotics is comparatively inexpensive.

The Chinese robotics company Dobot Robotics has launched its first humanoid robot. The company, which actually manufactures collaborative robotic arms for industrial applications, is now also entering the humanoid robot market and is charging a competitive price compared to other manufacturers.

The company, which is based in Shenzhen, China, is not revealing much information about the 1.53 m tall humanoid robot. It is said to have 28 degrees of freedom without hands and can be controlled extremely precisely with a deviation of ± 0.05 mm. This should also make the Atom robot suitable for precision work.

Compared to many other humanoid robots, the Atom robot keeps its knees bent when standing. This means that it does not have to keep the leg actuators continuously energized. According to Dobot Robotics, this reduces energy consumption by around 42 percent. However, walking on difficult terrain is not affected by this. The robotics company does not provide exact details on the walking speed, battery power and running time of the robot.

Actuators, motion control and intelligent sensors are said to be proprietary developments by Dobot Robotics. The company, which was founded in 2025, has already gained experience in developing and manufacturing collaborative robotic arms, SCARA arms (i.e. human-like robotic arms), desktop robotic arms and robotic arms for the education sector.

Dobot Robotics shows the Atom robot in various videos performing household, office and industrial tasks. It is noticeable that some processes are played back faster than they are in reality. So it will probably be some time before the robot is at the same level as Unitree's H1, FigureAI's Figure 02, UBTech's Walker S1 and Apptronik's Apollo. Some of these robots are already being tested in industrial use, but they also cost considerably more. The Unitree H1, for example, is available for 90,000 US dollars. The Dobot Atom, on the other hand, is expected to cost just 27,500 dollars. Dobot Robotics is currently planning to produce it in large quantities as early as 2025.
