WhatsApp: Problems importing backup data
Several users report hanging loading processes and unrecoverable problems with backup data, which is usually stored on Google Drive.

Numerous WhatsApp users are complaining about problems when importing chat backup data. According to the report, errors mainly occur when importing the automatically created backup files from Google Drive, which in the worst case can lead to the loss of chat histories, photos and videos.
As affected users report on Reddit, the import of backups simply stops after a while. Even after a long wait, no movement of the loading bar can be seen. Attempts to fix the problem often fail. Restarting the phone, uninstalling the app or clearing the cache does not seem to have any effect. According to one user, WhatsApp support advises users to report the problem in the help section under "Contact us".

Other users have already found a solution, but it is much simpler and does not rely on the faulty backup file. They should use the "Transfer chats" function. This can be found in the app settings under "Chats". This allows you to bypass the backup and transfer the data directly from an old cell phone to a new device. This can be done via a Wi-Fi network to which both devices must be connected in advance.
