AirFly Pro 2: Bluetooth connection for airplanes and cars with more features
In many airplanes and trains, there is only a cable connection for the entertainment systems. The AirFly Pro 2 helps – and can now do even more.

Anyone who wants to follow the available entertainment program on the monitor integrated in their seat on long-haul flights or on some trains –, for example in other European countries –, regularly faces a problem: the entertainment systems often lack a Bluetooth connection, forcing them to use the often inferior headphones issued by the transport company with their cables. This is because more and more headphones that users bring with them only come with Bluetooth – earbuds such as the AirPods anyway, but also over-ears (with exceptions). In addition, connections on airplanes often require special adapters. Wireless adapters are available to tackle this problem. One of the most popular has now received a major update: Twelve South's AirFly Pro has been released in version 2.
Better sound thanks to a new codec
The AirFly Pro 2 has a whole range of new features that set it apart from cheaper solutions that are available in abundance on Amazon, for example. For the first time, it not only transmits standard Bluetooth audio, but also the higher-quality aptX codec. If two people want to listen to the sound at the same time, this is now also possible.

The device allows two Bluetooth headsets to be paired at the touch of a button, which then receive the same signal in parallel. The adapter also has an integrated volume control and a mute switch. Twelve South promises a runtime of around 25 hours, charging is via USB-C. The weight is 16.5 grams.
Receiver and transmitter – for cars, for example
In addition to use in airplanes and trains, the AirFly Pro 2 can also be used on fitness equipment with an entertainment system or some games consoles that lack Bluetooth support – only require a 3.5 mm jack connection. The device can also be used the other way round: as a player. You can connect it to car radios or classic stereo systems to use a Bluetooth device such as an iPhone or iPad as an output device. There is also an RX/TX switch (receive or transmit), as known from earlier AirFly versions.
The AirFly Pro 2 costs 60 US dollars; the manufacturer has not yet provided any information on euro prices. Somewhat unsightly: The special adapter for some airplane connections is not included in the scope of delivery. You either have to buy it cheaply or purchase the "Deluxe" version from Twelve South yourself, which costs 10 dollars. As it is never certain which connection you will be confronted with on the plane, it is worth packing this small piece of hardware.
