There are numerous different charging plugs for e-bikes. With Ampler, the first manufacturer is now switching to the USB-C plug familiar from smartphones, notebooks and countless other devices. The first USB-C bikes are available for pre-order from today and Ampler plans to deliver from June.
Charging with 140 watts. That would be record-breaking for smartphones, but not necessarily for e-bikes. Ampler promises a charging time of 3.5 hours for a complete charging cycle; 2.5 hours should be enough for most commutes. The connection also supports reverse charging, so you can charge your smartphone with your bike. Ampler does not provide exact information in watt hours about the installed batteries or the predicted ones. However, as urban bikes for the city, the Ampler bikes are not designed for maximum range, but instead focus on low weight and an unobtrusive look that does not immediately suggest an e-bike.
Ampler is initially offering two models with the new charging connection, the Nova and the Nova Pro. Both are available with diamond or step-through frames in different sizes. Unlike Cowboy or VanMoof, for example, Ampler uses standard components from widely used suppliers such as Shimano, Gates, MicroSHIFT or Panaracer. This enables servicing in many bike workshops.

Prices from 2990 euros
With a price starting at €2990, the Nova is Ampler's entry into the world of USB-C e-bikes. It rolls through the world on 27.5-inch wheels and comes with a nine-speed transmission from MicroSHIFT. Ampler describes the riding position as upright and relaxed. The Nova Pro is the somewhat sportier version, with 28-inch wheels. The Ampler Nova Pro is available either as a single-speed with a carbon belt drive from Gates or with a ten-speed Shimano Deore derailleur system.

The Nova Pro is available from 3490 euros. Both bikes are available with accessories from the manufacturer and a matching app, which also enables GPS tracking and anti-theft monitoring. The bikes are handmade in the EU and Ampler offers a two-year manufacturer's warranty.
