Spatial Audio for Apple Music now also on Windows
There is a new feature in the latest version of the Apple Music app for PCs: Spatial Audio aka Dolby Atmos can now also be played on Windows.

Good news for Apple customers who (also) have a Windows PC – and a subscription to Apple Music: the latest version of the app for the music service for the platform gives users access to the spatial audio program – included in Apple Music for the first time, something that has been working on Apple hardware for years. The new feature is integrated from update 1.1284.20225 of the Windows application, which has been available since this week. "Enjoy an immersive spatial audio experience with Dolby Atmos," writes the iPhone company in the description.
Additional app is a must
However, as Apple states in a recently published instruction document that explains how to use it in more detail, Apple Music alone is not enough. You also need to install the Dolby Access application. This can be downloaded free of charge from the Microsoft Store, but may require an in-app purchase after a trial period of one week. This costs around 15 euros and unlocks Dolby Atmos for further use. New audio drivers may be required.
Spatial Audio / Dolby Atmos is easier to use on a Mac: all you need is a pair of compatible headphones (such as AirPods Max or AirPods Pro), a Vision Pro or a HomePod that are connected to the computer. Alternatively, an iPhone, iPad or Apple TV (via HDMI) can also be used as a player. The Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos tracks are included free of charge in the Apple Music subscription. Apple introduced the service in summer 2021 and has been regularly adding to the available content ever since. Spatial Audio / Dolby Atmos has long been supported by Apple Music on Android.

More Atmos for the Mac too
With macOS 15 alias Sequoia, which was released in the fall, Apple recently enabled Dolby Atmos passthrough on the Mac. iMacs can also play Atmos sounds directly.
Apple Music costs 10.99 euros per month. There are discounted annual packages as well as family subscriptions and a complete subscription with other Apple services called Apple One (19.95 euros). According to the company, there are now over 70 million songs in the package.
