180 degree view, 8K resolution: this is the standard level of images in Apple's immersive video format. Various series from the company itself are already filmed in this format and played on the Vision Pro headset, such as animal and adventure films in short formats. To ensure that more material of this type is created in the future, Apple has now introduced a new management tool that is intended for both the Vision Pro itself and the Mac. It is called Apple Immersive Video Tool and has been available in the App Store since this week.
Combination of Mac and Vision Pro
Apple describes the free software as being suitable for "importing, organizing, bundling and controlling" Apple immersive video media on the Mac. This goes hand in hand with the visionOS version of the application. This also allows the movies to be viewed in their full beauty. It also has a playlist function.
Whether it is also suitable as a simple player app remained unclear at first, but there are already a whole range for other formats in the App Store. The standard functions of the Apple Immersive Video Format Tool on the Mac are import and management (also with playlists), sharing with other users with Vision Pro, changing and viewing metadata and direct streaming from the Mac. Synchronized playback is even implemented for larger groups.

Cameras and other hardware
The production of Apple immersive video media requires suitable hardware. Apple worked with various providers, including Blackmagic with the URSA Cine Immersive. The system costs 30,000 US dollars. It can record with a resolution of 8160 Ă— 7200 pixels per eye and a frame rate of 90fps.
With DaVinci Resolve Studio, this should result in an end-to-end workflow – interesting, also because Resolve is a direct competitor to Apple's Final Cut Pro. Currently, there is only a small amount of content available, most of which, as already mentioned, was produced by Apple. The company hopes to establish the format quickly. At the moment, the films are more of a demonstration object than long-term content. However, with its TV+ production, Apple has enough opportunities to realize serious content such as entire series and cinema films in Apple Immersive Video.
