iPhone 16e: Apple spare parts available for end customers
Materials for the latest iPhone are now also available as part of the self-service repair program. But is the repair worthwhile?

Apple is now quite quick to bring materials for newly launched products to the market, with which customers can try their hand at self-repair. The iPhone 16e, released at the end of March, is now also covered: As part of the Self Service Repair Program (SSRP), you can purchase all kinds of spare parts from Apple's official repair store. However, as always, this is particularly worthwhile for people who enjoy – and skilled hands. Financially, you may pay more – if you set up the working hours.
A dozen categories
The iPhone 16e parts were released in the USA and – commendably – also in numerous European countries. As usual, you have to visit the self-service repair store. There you then select the appropriate product category and model and can now also find the 16e – as well as the 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models. The available components are divided into a dozen areas. These include the battery, camera, display, rear glass, speakers, Taptic Engine, microphones and various other parts, although not entire motherboards.
As usual, Apple also provides suitable tools – from quality screwdrivers to special hardware that can be used to open the screen or correctly reinsert the battery. More expensive products or entire sets can also be rented from Apple if you would rather not carry out repairs more often. Apple has designed the repair store in such a way that you can always find tools next to the spare parts, which makes the range very clear.

Read the repair manuals carefully
The manuals that Apple has published on the web for all products that can be repaired in the SSRP are of central importance for repairs. One is now also available for the iPhone 16e. It is already available in German and explains (largely) easy to understand how to proceed. Nevertheless, you should already have some experience with repairing electronic devices. Another interesting feature of the repair manuals is that they help to diagnose problems. They also help you to gain an understanding of the structure of the devices.
But before you pull out your credit card when you have to deal with a faulty iPhone 16e, you should first check whether it is a self-inflicted problem or a warranty case. The latter would be handled by Apple free of charge. If you have taken out AppleCare+ device insurance, standard repairs are available for a small fee. Apple is also often accommodating when it comes to battery problems, so it's worth contacting the service department first. The prices for spare parts are by no means low. A single display including screws alone costs 269 euros. Nevertheless, there is a credit note of 13.45 euros if you send in the defective screen.
