Official Raspi USB power supply with 45 watts
The Raspi manufacturer is launching a USB-C power supply with 45 watts of charging power. It is slightly more expensive than the previous 27-watt version.
The Raspi power supply units are available with different plugs for buyers from different countries.

Raspberry Pi Holding Plc is now launching its third power supply unit with USB-C connector. The versions with 15 and 27 watts of electrical output power are followed by a 45-watt variant. The power supply can output around 5 amps at 9 volts or 2.25 amps at 20 volts via USB Power Delivery (USB-PD). The atypical operating mode with 5.1 volts and 5 amps for the Raspberry Pi 5 is of course also included.
For the Raspberry Pi 5 or other Raspi single-board computers, the 45 watt power supply has no advantages, as the models do not need the additional electrical power. The more powerful power supply unit is particularly interesting if it is also used, but not only for a Raspi. For example, it is suitable for charging smartphones when the single-board computer is switched off.
Apart from that, the manufacturer advertises the 45-watt model for anyone who needs a USB-C power supply, even if they are not interested in a Raspberry Pi. Company boss Eben Upton is already confident about the 27-watt version in his own blog post: "In building the best USB-C power supply for our customers, we’d accidentally built the best USB-C power supply for everyone."
Raspberry Pi Holding Plc takes the same approach with the rest of its peripherals, such as the USB hub: Buyers should be able to rely on high-quality components and long availability. Raspberry Pi Holding Plc has had the previous power supplies produced by KTEC, with capacitors from Panasonic – presumably this also applies to the 45-watt version.

USB cable permanently connected
The USB cable is also permanently connected to the power supply unit on the 45-watt model. Compared to the 27-watt version, however, the cable length increases from 1.2 to 1.5 meters. A longer USB cable cannot be connected.
The Raspi manufacturer opts for permanently connected cables in order to have full control over the electrical properties. The length and thickness of the cables, for example, have an influence on the voltage drop to the connected device.
The recommended retail price is 15 US dollars (excluding tax). Several partner stores in Germany are already selling the 45-watt power supply unit (starting from 14,20 €).
