Leaker: Stage Manager for iOS 19, menu bar for iPadOS 19
Apple reportedly wants to make both mobile operating systems more "Mac-like" from the fall and bring macOS functions to smartphones and tablets.

With iOS 19, iPadOS 19 and macOS 16, Apple is reportedly planning a new, more uniform design for its operating systems. At the same time, the iPhone and iPad are also set to receive more "Mac-like" functions in certain usage scenarios. At least that's what a leaker claims, who has been right several times in the past. According to the information, the Apple tablet will have a menu bar for the first time when using external hardware, while the Stage Manager function for window management from macOS and iPadOS will also appear on the iPhone once the screen is connected.
Keyboard attached, menu bar appears
Leaker Majin Bu claims to have learned this from developer circles. In a blog post, he writes that the iPad will receive a new version of Stage Manager, which he calls Stage Manager 2.0. This will include new multitasking modes that enable simplified window management. Currently, iPadOS still lacks completely free window placement, which makes Stage Manager rather unpopular with professionals.

Apparently, the iPad switches to the new mode as soon as a keyboard is connected to the device. A menu bar then appears at the top of the screen, "making the iPad look more like a laptop experience". However, it is still unclear how these menus are composed. In addition to basic commands, they would have to be adapted to the respective app. Whether developers have to intervene here or whether this happens automatically has not yet been leaked. Especially since the iPad Pro M4, there has been repeated criticism of Apple's limited iPadOS functions. This includes, for example, Final Cut Pro not being able to render in the background.
iPhone with window management?
According to the blog post, iOS 19 will also bring window control to the iPhone for the first time. Until now, it has not been possible to have two iOS apps on the screen. This should now be possible thanks to a stage manager function. However, this should only appear when the iPhone is connected to an external screen via a USB-C cable.
A "full desktop mode" is therefore not to be expected. Thanks to Stage Manager, however, it should at least be possible to move areas to the large screen. This is already possible in some cases, albeit with major restrictions. However, according to the report, iOS 19 will limit the number of apps that can be displayed simultaneously. The aim is to create a "seamless Apple ecosystem". Apple will present details on iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 at WWDC in early June.
