The release date for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) has been pushed back again. This has now been announced by developer Rockstar Games. The provisional new release date is May 26, 2026.
Rockstar apologizes to fans for the delay: "We sincerely regret that the release is later than anticipated." The announcement also expresses gratitude to supporters for their patience as the title is completed.
Rockstar used a familiar argument to justify the six-month extra round: additional time was needed to "deliver the level of quality you expect and deserve", Rockstar Games wrote to GTA players. More information will be available soon. Previously, Rockstar Games had flirted with a release sometime in 2025, but then later dated it more concretely to the fall.

Record results predicted
The publicly listed publisher Take-Two Interactive, owner of Rockstar Games, also reported the postponement – combined with a forecast of record financial results for 2025 and 2026 – to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in a so-called "8-K" report. The forecast is likely to be based on the hoped-for success of the sixth GTA installment.
GTA VI is expected to be released on May 26, 2026 for Playstation 5, Xbox Series X and S. A PC version has not yet been announced.
