Vibe-Coding in Xcode: Apple kooperiert mit Anthropic

Apple apparently wants to integrate more AI functions into Xcode. The business news agency Bloomberg reports that there is to be a cooperation with the LLM provider Anthropic for this purpose. The idea is to implement so-called vibe coding functions in Apple's in-house developer package. Vibe coding allows you to create programs by telling an AI system what you would like to see. The technology is now used by both novice programmers and more and more professionals to get inspiration.
Initially only internally?
According to Bloomberg, Xcode will use the Claude Sonnet language model from Anthropic. The initial plan is reportedly to implement the functionality internally only. It is not yet clear whether it will be marketed to the developer audience. Apple first wants to improve its internal workflow and "accelerate and modernize" software development, according to reports.
The iPhone manufacturer is looking to AI coding tools such as those from Anysphere (Cursor) and Windsurf. Apple is said not to have initially planned internally to use AI tools for software development, at least for programs that are to be released externally. The resistance has allegedly subsided meanwhile with the improvement of large LLMs.

Coding aid Swift Assist is still missing
Apple had already announced its own AI-based coding help last summer. Swift Assist was supposed to become part of Xcode, but it has still not been released. The reason for this is apparently that the product still hallucinates too much, i.e. invents information. According to Bloomberg, there were even internal concerns that Swift Assist was slowing down development rather than speeding it up.
The cooperation with Anthropic now suggests that Apple is probably also searching for outside help, whereby it is conceivable that Claude technology will be combined with Swift Assist. Neither Anthropic nor Apple wanted to comment on the report. Apple recently had to postpone new Siri functions for Apple Intelligence and restructured its management in the AI segment. In the process, the long-standing head of the Machine Learning and AI segment was partially ousted and a manager from the Vision Pro team was appointed to the management position.
