The smartphone as the hub of the mobile office is becoming a little more convenient: Google has given the document scanner built into Android a useful update.
Scanning documents with an Android smartphone no longer requires third-party apps. Such a function is integrated in the Files app, Google Drive and the Camera app. Google has provided this with an update, which automatically visibly improves the image quality of the scan.
Android: Google improves the document scanner
As Android Authority reports, Google has given the MLKit document scanner an update that automatically improves every scanned document. After the scanning process, a button is also integrated in the top right-hand corner that allows users to remove the optimization if desired.

An initial test shows: The documents optimized with machine learning become brighter and more contrasty as a result of the process. The font also becomes darker and sharper.
According to Google, the scanning process and processing take place directly on the device. Furthermore, no additional camera permission is required as the scanner uses the permissions of Google Play services. The new function will be integrated into the system via an update of Google Play services to version 25.17.30.

"Enhance" function was previously hidden deeper in the system
Users who have used the native document scanner frequently may be familiar with the optimization function. However, it was previously hidden in the filter menu and had to be used manually.
The other functions of the scan function remain unchanged. It is still possible to crop the document, apply filters to save the original in grayscale, for example, and remove any coffee stains.
A native document scanner is not only integrated in Android; Apple's iPhones also have such a function, which can even be activated directly from a Mac if required.
