Whoop has presented the 5th generation of its fitness tracker without a screen. The wearables are available in two versions and three price levels and are designed to offer 14 days of battery life.

Whoop 4.0 is followed by Whoop 5.0 and Whoop MG (MG stands for "medical grade"). According to the manufacturer, the fitness trackers will offer significantly longer battery life and better data collection, while the form factor has been reduced by seven percent. The US company has also integrated new health functions such as ECG and blood pressure data, although these are only available on the most expensive model.

Whoop 5.0 and MG are said to last 14 days on a single charge, while its predecessor, Whoop 4.0, had to be recharged after five days, according to the manufacturer. A "battery puck" is used for recharging, which is attached to the wearable so that it can continue to be used. The inductive battery pack is designed to supply the wearable with power for up to four weeks. The power pack is only included with the more expensive "Life" and "Peak" Abo variants. Meanwhile, the cheaper "One" model only comes with a standard charger and cable.

According to the manufacturer, the new wearables have improved sensors that record health data 26 times per second. The new processor of the Whoop 5.0 and MG is also ten times more energy efficient than its predecessor.

Like the previous generation, the new trackers collect a lot of health and activity data such as steps, activities, VO2 max (blood oxygen) and heart rate. The tracker also displays data on sleep patterns, stress levels and the female hormone balance in the smartphone app.

According to the company, the "Health Span" function, which displays the estimated physiological age, as well as ECG and "Blood Pressure Insights" are new additions. When recording blood pressure, Whoop relies on a software solution that is still in the beta phase. According to the manufacturer, the function provides estimated systolic and diastolic readings, and users can also receive notifications in the event of an irregular heart rhythm.

If you want to use all these features, you have to choose the MG model, which costs 399 euros per year. The "Peak" package, which costs 264 euros per year, includes the "Health Span" function as well as a stress and health monitor. The cheapest "One" version, at 199 euros per year, does not provide any of the new metrics, but only roughly those of Whoop 4.0.

The new Whoop trackers can be worn with a wristband on the wrist or upper arm. With additional accessories, they can also be worn on the chest or even underpants.

Like the previous versions, Whoop 5.0 and MG will continue to be offered exclusively as part of a subscription. Whoop subscribers will receive the new wearable free of charge when they renew their subscription. For an upgrade fee, users will receive the new model without renewing their subscription.
