The Japanese office equipment manufacturer Epson has retrofitted a number of its products for Apple ecosystems. A total of a dozen devices can now be addressed with HomeKit and AirPlay 2 by an update. The company announced in a press release that some models already support both processes, ex works. According to the manufacturer, the aim is to improve the convenience and connectivity of its projectors.

The current list includes the EB-FH18, EB-FH54, EB-994F, EB-L890E, EB-L795SE, EB-L790SU, EB-L890U, EB-L895U, EB-L790U, EB-L690U, EB-L690SU and EB-L695SU models. Not all of them are immediately available in European stores. Some are also professional versions that cost between 4000 and 5000 euros. With AirPlay 2, the devices can be fed with content directly from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. For example, it is possible to share the entire screen or just individual areas. In addition to the video, the sound is of course also passed on. If the internal speaker is not sufficient, AirPlay speakers can also be addressed in parallel, synchronizing picture and sound. The HomeKit connection allows the projector to be controlled using the Apple Home app on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac plus – via the control center – Apple TV. The functions currently available include the ability to switch the projector on or off from the Apple device. This is also possible via Apple's voice assistant Siri.

The supported projectors work with 3LCD or 4K laser projection. Apple has published its list of compatible Home devices, including TVs, streaming boxes and other projectors, on its website. Epson devices are not yet listed. Epson has also not yet provided any information on how the necessary updates will be installed and when they will be available.

However, it should only be a matter of a few weeks or months. In its press release, the company unfortunately does not differentiate between devices that receive HomeKit and AirPlay 2 ex works – and those that require new software.
