There are reports that feel like déjà vu – For example, news about Instagram for the iPad: year after year, Meta puts off Apple tablet users. At some point, yes at some point, the photo and video service will appear in an adapted iPadOS version, the company keeps hinting. The most recent rumors were in April. This time, the reason is allegedly that Meta wants to reach users who have defected to TikTok on the tablet. Now that WhatsApp has surprisingly been released for the iPad after a year and a half in beta, the evidence is growing stronger.
Zuckerberg was not an iPad fan
In the Apple newsletter published by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman on Sunday, it was said that WhatsApp for iPadOS was just a "harbinger" of the Instagram version. "I'm told that employees on Meta's campus are already actively testing Instagram for iPad and that development work is in full swing." But don't get too excited: although the release is expected "this year", the year is only half over. In addition, there is no public beta of Instagram for iPadOS yet, while the WhatsApp pre-release version was at least initially accessible to all interested parties via TestFlight.
The history of Instagram and the iPad version is a long one. Initially, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg personally made fun of the iPad and did not want Facebook to offer a client. Users could use the Safari browser instead. Nevertheless, an iPad version was released in 2011. Instagram, on the other hand, did not come to Apple tablets even after it was acquired by Meta in 2012.

Inflated iPhone version
Apparently, there was a fear that the app would not look adequate in large format – due to the comparatively low resolution that was once standard. As a result, most iPad users used Instagram in the browser. iOS apps can usually be run on the iPad, but then they look bloated.
Meanwhile, however, technology has moved on, Instagram has beautiful pictures and videos and actually fits well on the Apple tablet. The long-awaited WhatsApp version has received good reviews so far. What's particularly nice is that you can use it in multitasking mode.
