Apple has updated its in-house digital audio workstation software Logic Pro for iPad and Mac. The updates to version 11.2 and version 2.2 (iPad) deliver a range of useful new features for the DAWs. These include Flashback Recording, which automatically records improvisations and other ideas developed with Logic Pro so that they can be recalled. Logic Pro thus remains in recording mode in the background. For the first time on the iPad, there is also the Learn MIDI function to control plug-ins, instruments, and parameters via a “preferred MIDI device”.
Split stems and new sound packages
The iPad and Mac now feature improved automatic splitting of stems. For the first time, you can also isolate guitar and piano. The submix feature generates instrumentals on request and extracts drums/bass. New presets allow you to create stem mix sets in frequently used categories.

On the iPad there is a new drum and bass sound package called Dancefloor Rush, while on the Mac “Magnetic Imperfections” (for analog-like sounds) and “Tosin Abasi” (metal guitar sounds) are also included. On the Mac, there is also an improved “Search and Select” function, which now also recognizes name and track number. On the Mac, Logic Pro in Notepad now supports Apple's AI function Writing Tools, including the ChatGPT interface. The Flashback recording available on iPad and Mac comes with a cycle mode in which takes automatically end up in a take folder. Automatic recording also works with external sources (including MIDI).
Mac as a complete purchase, iPad only as a subscription
The full version of Logic Pro for macOS costs just under 230 euros in the Mac App Store. Apple has a 90-day trial version available on its website. The minimum requirement is macOS 14.4 or higher. The iPad version of Logic Pro runs on iOS 18.4 or higher and is available as a subscription (4.99 euros per month or 49 euros per year). The tablet version cannot be purchased outright. You can read a test of the first iPad version of Logic Pro here.
In addition to Logic Pro, Apple has also released an iPad version of Final Cut Pro since 2023. The iPad requires at least an A12 Bionic chip for Logic Pro.
