Sky: Control your Mac desktop with AI from the makers of Shortcuts
Apple Intelligence doesn't yet offer any functions for controlling the Mac. That's where Sky's developers come in: Their application uses LLMs for automation.

What are the developers actually doing who once launched the popular Workflow app, which was then bought up by Apple as shortcuts and integrated into iOS, macOS, and the like? They are developing again. Ari Weinstein and Conrad Kramer stayed with Apple for a few years after the Workflow acquisition. Now they have founded a new company, Software Applications Incorporated, which has announced its first product, Sky (or Sky.app), for this summer.

Weinstein and Kramer remain true to the field of automation: Sky is a macOS app that allows you to control your computer using AI. A floating prompt bar makes it possible: using natural language, you can, for example, request a calendar entry from emails or perform actions with open windows – with any app on the computer.

Productivity blogger Federico Viticci has already had the opportunity to take a look at a pre-release version. At first glance, Sky looks like other launchers for ChatGPT and the like, but the app can do much more. Sky understands what is on the screen. Although the apps from large LLM providers can also increasingly do this, Weinstein and Kramer are significantly more familiar with system integration, which is also noticeable. The user can also select the LLM used, which is either GPT 4.1 or Claude.
Interaction with numerous apps
In the Sky teaser, you can see how a user first exports an event from a chat, then has a wine bar visit added to it, only to have the matching iMessage message generated immediately. “AI that gets things done on your Mac”, write the creators. Like Spotlight, Sky can always be accessed via a keyboard shortcut and file attachments can be uploaded immediately.
The current pre-release version of Sky can currently handle Finder, Notes, Browser, e-mail and the aforementioned apps Messages and Calendar, among others. Further functions can be added via Apple's shortcuts, AppleScript and even shell scripts. MCP will also be supported in the future. Anyone interested in Sky can pre-register on its website.
