The revised generation of the Hue Smart Button is slightly slimmer, but at 45 mm it is larger than the previous version, which is only 32 mm in size. They do not differ in price and cost 22 euros each.

The new generation of the Smart Button is used to control smart home devices from the Philips Hue family without having to use the smartphone app. The button can be used to switch lights, sockets, or groups on or off at the touch of a button. With a long press on the button, users can also adjust the brightness, for example.

Users can also switch manually between different scenes. Depending on the time of day, different scenes with different light colors and intensities can also be set. There is also a night mode with dimmed light to choose from. The button can also be used to trigger predefined automations.

The Smart Button is integrated into the home system as an accessory via the Hue app. Technically, the manufacturer continues to rely on familiar standards such as Zigbee 3.0 and Bluetooth for the new switch. Accordingly, a Hue bridge is required for integration into the smart home.

The compact button is powered by a standard CR2032 button cell which, according to the manufacturer, should last around two years with average use.

The smart switch is supplied with a mini magnetic holder. According to Philips, it can be attached to almost any surface or used on the move. The button can also be used as a replacement for a classic switch thanks to a mounting plate included in the scope of delivery – but this can only be glued on. The second generation comes with a screw-on wall bracket that is more reminiscent of a classic wall switch.
