5G+ gaming: Deutsche Telekom promises latency-free gaming on the iPhone
Infrastructure upgrades aim to optimize iOS devices for cloud gaming. Telekom says 5G+ and network slicing enable a smoother mobile gaming experience.

Deutsche Telekom has now also released its latency booster for mobile games, 5G+ Gaming, for iPhone users. Until now, the technology was only available for Android devices from Samsung, but now it also runs on iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max and 16e. 5G+ Gaming uses network slicing to achieve lower overall packet runtimes for gaming applications.
The downside: 5G+ Gaming does not currently work with every cloud gaming provider, but only with Deutsche Telekom partner Sora Stream. This currently offers 500 titles, including a number of games from the first AAA series such as "Elden Ring", "Hogwarts Legacy", "Rocket League" and "LEGO: Batman 3". As usual with cloud gaming, downloads are not necessary.
Must be booked additionally
It initially remained unclear whether 5G+ Gaming can be used across the entire Telekom 5G network. The telecommunications group refers to its network expansion map, which currently still lacks the appropriate overlay for the service. Furthermore, a "current MagentaMobil tariff" must be taken out that has 5G+ Gaming as an option, which must be added but remain permanently free of charge. 5G+ Gaming is activated via the Deutsche Telekom website or the MeinMagenta app.
Deutsche Telekom then promises a "smooth gaming experience", but as mentioned, this is only possible with Sora Stream; it remains to be seen whether other cloud gaming services will be added. After all, Deutsche Telekom is currently offering a 50 percent discount on a Sora Stream subscription package until the end of October 2025.

Annual price currently 50 euros
"Thanks to the discount, Deutsche Telekom customers can, for example, test the offer for just 1.50 euros per week (instead of the regular 2.99 euros), one month for 4.99 euros (instead of 9.99 euros) or one year for 49.99 euros (instead of the regular 99.99 euros)," said the company in a statement. The discount can be redeemed multiple times.
There is now a matching Sora Stream app for iOS. The network slicing should include "L4S: Low Latency, Low Loss, Scalable Throughput. Deutsche Telekom did not initially provide any precise details on the actual latency. The group emphasized that it is the first network operator "to integrate these intelligent additional functions into its 5G network" and market them to private customers.
